Student Code of Conduct and Academic Integrity

Gila Community College expects and requires students to act with honesty, integrity, and respect. Students are responsible for understanding the College’s Academic Integrity Policy and adhering to the behavior standards listed. The policy in its entirety can be found in the College’s current catalog.

Plagiarism violates the College’s Academic Integrity Policy. Plagiarism involves representing someone else’s ideas and/or words as one’s own without properly acknowledging the sources. Students plagiarizing will be subject to sanctions as outlined in policy.

Students are entitled to an education free from interference by other members of the class. An instructor may withdraw a student from a course when the student’s behavior disrupts the educational process.

Accessibility Statement

In compliance with the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Section 504, and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, professional disability specialists and support staff facilitate the academic support services and accommodations for qualified students with disabilities. Eligibility is based on qualifying disability documentation and assessment of individual need. Students who believe they have a need for disability accommodations are responsible for requesting accommodations and providing qualifying documentation to GCC’s Academic Advising office. Every effort will be made to provide reasonable accommodation for qualified students.

Title IX

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 states, “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied benefits of, or be subject to discrimination under any educational program or activity receiving Federal financial aid.”  Gila Community College is committed to providing a safe and positive learning, living, and working environment. Both Title IX and GCC’s Civil Rights Protections and Sexual Harassment Prohibition policy make clear that sexual violence and harassment based on gender is prohibited. The College has a responsibility to ensure that students, faculty, staff, and visitors can enjoy the benefits and opportunities the College has to offer in an environment free from discrimination on the basis of gender, including sexual harassment, sexual misconduct, sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, stalking, bullying, and retaliation.

An individual who believes they have been subjected to sexual violence or harassed on the basis of sex can seek support, including counseling and academic support, from the College. If you or someone you know has been harassed on the basis of sex or sexually assaulted, please reach out to the Academic Advising office, a faculty member, or a college administrator.

Please note, as a mandated reporter, College faculty and staff are obligated to report any information they become aware of regarding alleged acts of discrimination, harassment, or sexual misconduct.

Harassment Prohibited

GCC policy prohibits harassment on the basis of race, sex, gender identity, age, religion, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, veteran status, and other protected classes. Violations of this policy are serious and may result in disciplinary action, including termination of employees or expulsion of students. Contact your professor or GCC’s Academic Advising Department if you are concerned about harassment of any kind.
