Gila Community College Proposes Slightly Lower Tax Levy Rate for 2026

GILA COUNTY, AZ – Gila Community College (GCC) is providing this update to ensure full transparency regarding its Fiscal Year 2026 primary property tax levy and Proposed FY 2026-2027 Budget.

At its May 7, 2026, District Governing Board meeting, the GCC board approved the legal publication of the FY 2026-2027 budget and declined to take the 2 percent allowable levy increase permitted under A.R.S. § 15‑1461.01. If the District were to take the full increase, the levy rate would be $93.20. Since the assessed property value has increased county-wide, the tax rate will drop from $92.12 to $91.37 per $100,000 of net assessed value.
“The Gila Community College Governing Board believes that reducing the tax levy rate represents the best interest of our constituents,” said Dr. Jan Brocker, District Governing Board President. “It demonstrates our dedication to transparency, accountability, and responsible fiscal leadership, while continuing to deliver high‑quality educational opportunities for Gila County at an affordable cost.”

Dr. Janice Lawhorn, President of Gila Community College, added, “This reduction reflects our long‑term commitment to strong stewardship and strategic investment. We are strengthening programs, expanding access, and building a resilient future for the students and communities we serve – while honoring the trust placed in us by Gila County taxpayers.”

In accordance with statutory requirements, GCC will hold a Special Budget Public Hearing to adopt its budget and provide the public with full information and an opportunity to provide comments. All interested citizens are invited to attend the public hearing scheduled for the Gila Pueblo Campus, 8274 South Six Shooter Canyon Road, Globe, AZ, on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at 8:00 a.m.
