Gila Community College Announces Tonto Creek Summer STEM Camp for Middle School Students

Gila Community College is excited to announce the Tonto Creek Summer STEM Camp, a four-day experience designed to spark curiosity, creativity, and confidence in students entering grades 7–9. This camp is made possible through the generous support of a grant from the Richard F. Caris Foundation.

The camp runs from June 22 to 25, 2026, at Camp Tontozona. Students will enjoy a unique blend of hands-on STEM learning and outdoor adventure. With only 50 spots available, each participant will receive a personalized and engaging experience.

Campers will take part in a wide range of activities, including archery, hiking, swimming, ecology studies, STEM projects, nature art, a talent show, leadership development, and a visit to Tonto Natural Bridge State Park. The program combines academic exploration with outdoor fun to foster teamwork and build problem-solving skills.

The cost is $80 per student, which includes three nights of lodging, all meals, activities, a camp T-shirt, and program materials. To encourage full engagement, electronic devices will not be allowed during camp. Staff will have phones available for emergencies or if parents need to reach their child.

“Our goal is to spark interest in STEM fields while giving students a memorable outdoor learning experience,” said Dr. Phil McBride of Gila Community College. “This camp helps students discover new passions and see themselves in future careers.”
